'The traditional Strumica Carnival blends together ancient and modern traditions in a rich display of costumes, laughter, songs and fun. The Carnival is held during the Trimeri holidays, at the beginning of the Lenten fast. Trimeri begins on Sunday night (on Procka) and lasts until Wednesday. Tuesday night is the traditional carnival night with fireworks and lots of music when a parade goes through the city streets entertaining everybody present. The best costumes are selected and awarded in one of three categories, a group costume, a single costume, or a musical group. The partying continues until the early morning hours in the city's night clubs.
The Carnival of Vevčani is an annual event that it is claimed has existed for over 1,400 years. It is held to celebrate the New Year according to the Julian calendar. During the carnival attendees wear masks, usually dressing as musicians, brides and grooms, and August the Stupid.
In 1993 Vevčani became a member of the World Federation of Carnival Cities.
This is international carnival with numerous guests from Macedonia and abroad. It is held on the religious holiday “Procka” (Forgiveness) which is a day in the Orthodox Christianity of mutual forgiveness between believers.
This is the youngest carnival in our coutry so it is still in proccess of developement. But, we're sure that will atract as many people as the two others in our country.
